Yasothon is a small town on the Chi River that comes alive each May for the Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival, when giant homemade rockets are fired to call the rains before rice planting. Phaya Thaen Park, with its landmark giant toad building, is the festival’s heart. The province is also known for triangular khit pillows from Ban Si Than and organic rice, and is peaceful outside festival time.
