Private taxi: the fastest and easiest
A private car picks you up at your Bangkok hotel, condo or airport gate and drops you at your door in Hua Hin. Most trips take about 3 hours, longer on Friday evenings and holiday weekends. The usual road is Rama II (Highway 35) to Pak Tho, then Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) through Phetchaburi and Cha-am.
Our fixed price starts at ฿1,600 per car with tolls and fuel included, the same from Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. You can stop for food, toilets or a quick look at Phetchaburi on the way.
Train: scenic but slow
Trains on the State Railway of Thailand southern line stop at Hua Hin's historic wooden station. Most long-distance services now leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue), and the trip usually takes 4–5 hours. Seats are cheap and second class is comfortable, but delays are common and you still need a ride from Hua Hin station to your hotel.
Bus and minivan: the budget options
Coaches and minivans run from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) and Mo Chit, and a coach service has also run from Suvarnabhumi Airport. They take 3.5–4.5 hours. Minivans are quick but tight on luggage space. Buses drop you at a terminal in Hua Hin, so you'll need a local ride for the last few kilometres.
What about flying?
Hua Hin has a small airport, but there is usually no regular flight from Bangkok – the drive is shorter than checking in. Hua Hin Airport only makes sense if a direct flight from another city happens to suit you. See our Hua Hin Airport guide.
Which option should you choose?
- Arriving at the airport with suitcases or children: private taxi straight from arrivals.
- Travelling alone with a backpack and time to spare: train or bus.
- A group of 4–10 people: a van costs less per person than separate bus tickets plus local taxis.
- Night arrivals: a pre-booked car is the only option that runs whenever your flight lands.
