Hua Hin beaches

Hua Hin Beach is a long, flat stretch of pale sand running about 5 km south from the town centre to Khao Takiab hill. It is calm, shallow and good for walking, horse rides and kite-surfing; swimming is best in the dry season from November to April. Quieter coves such as Khao Tao and Sai Noi lie a short drive further south.

Hua Hin town beach

The central beach starts by the old Railway Hotel (now the Centara Grand) and the fishing pier. Mornings are the nicest time: low tide opens up wide firm sand, joggers and horses come out, and the light over the Gulf is soft. Big hotels front much of the beach, but every stretch is public. Deckchairs and umbrellas are rented by the day.

Khao Takiab and the south end

At the southern end, Khao Takiab ('chopstick hill') rises above the sand with a standing Buddha facing the sea and a temple on top – and a large troop of monkeys. Walk up for the view, then eat at the seafood restaurants by the fishing boats. Just beyond, Khao Tao has a smaller, prettier bay.

Swimming and safety

  • The Gulf is generally calm, but during the October–November monsoon change waves and currents pick up; watch for red flags.
  • Jellyfish appear at times, mainly in the wet season. Vinegar posts stand on some beaches; ask locally.
  • There are few lifeguards; swim near other people and avoid swimming after drinking.
  • Sun is strong year round – shade between 11 am and 3 pm.

Getting between beaches

Green songthaews run along Phetkasem Road between town and Khao Takiab. For Sai Noi, Pranburi or Cha-am a private car is easier, especially with children or beach gear. Our local Hua Hin rides start at ฿500; see the full things to do in Hua Hin for more ideas.
