Cool dry season: November to February
This is peak season. Days are sunny and around 29–31°C, nights cool to the low 20s, humidity drops and the sea is calm. It is the best time for beaches, golf and day trips to Sam Roi Yot. Hotels charge more and book up around Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.
Hot season: March to May
Temperatures climb to 32–33°C with strong sun and very little rain until May. The sea is warm and usually flat – good for swimming early and late in the day. Plan inland trips such as Pala-U Waterfall for the morning and rest at midday. Songkran (13–15 April) brings water fights to town.
Rainy season: June to October
The southwest monsoon brings more cloud and rain, but Hua Hin sits in a rain shadow and gets far less than Phuket or Koh Chang. June to August often feel like summer with occasional showers. September and October are the wettest months, with heavier storms and rougher sea. Prices drop and the countryside turns green; Kaeng Krachan partly closes for the wet season.
Packing tips
- Light cotton clothes, a hat and reef-safe sunscreen year round.
- A light jacket for air-conditioned buses and cool December evenings.
